History
Neelikon Dyestuffs was founded in 1983 by Mukund Turakhia and was incorporated into the present company in 1994, as Neelikon Food Dyes and Chemicals Ltd. Neelikon manufactures colours from its plants in Dhatav, around 120 km from Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and manages its business from its head office in Mumbai, India.
Neelikon has emerged as a prime manufacturer of high quality dyes, pigments & lakes for food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, personal care, home care, stationary and inkjet ink industries. It also produces specialty fluorescent dyes used in manufacturing of daylight fluorescent pigments and other specialty industrial applications. The majority of its production is exported around the world. Neelikon is regarded as one of the top three producers in the world for food colours, cosmetic pigments and fluorescent dyes.

People
Neelikon’s emergence as a major dye producer is attributed to its Managing Director, Mukund Turakhia. Mr. Turakhia is a renowned Chemical Engineer, with a 50-year association in the dyestuffs and chemical industry. He was responsible for introducing indigenous technology for the production of food dye in India in 1973-1974. For this, he was presented a National Award from the President of India. He has also received the Highest Export Award from CHEMEXCIL – A Government of India Export Promotion Council, for the export of Synthetic Indigo Dye (1977-1978).
Neelikon is closely held company, where Mukund Turakhia & his family is the 100% owner of Neelikon. In 1995-96, Mr Mukund’s two sons joined the business. In the year 2014-15 Neelikon appointed a CEO to help manage the growing business and to professionalize the management. With many of the staff at Neelikon now having been with the company for 20 + years, Neelikon has an experienced management team to run the day to day operations.
Neelikon believes that a company’s most valuable resource is its people. Hence, it hires only the best. In such an environment, decentralization is easy. The staff readily takes on responsibility and is always quick in taking action.

Research
At Neelikon, Research & Development is a continuous process, for better quality and a wider product range. The R&D drive at Neelikon has borne rich fruits. It has enabled Neelikon to introduce many products for the first time from the Asian market. In-house technology and manufacturing allows Neelikon to provide:

Neelikon has also made the quantum leap in becoming a major producer of lake and US FDA certified FD&C and D&C dyes and lakes. It is one of the few companies outside of North America that produces food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic colours that meet the regulations laid down by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Neelikon has a very successful record of certification from US FDA since more than 25+ years.
Achievements
Neelikon is regarded as one of the top three producers in the world for food colours, cosmetic pigments and fluorescent dyes. The company is awarded by SICOM and Lalit Doshi Memorial Additional Award for outstanding performance for year 2004-2005.
The company has also been awarded as the Best Manufacturer-Exporter Award at the ECGC – D&B Indian exporters Excellence Award 2012.
Neelikon arranged vaccination for its employees at factory.

This event witnessed the release of two publications ‘Leading SMEs of India 2020’ and ‘Leading Mid-Corporates of India 2020’ by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways and the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The publications list and profile the leading SMEs and MidCorporates in India, and also provide an overview on the Indian MSME sector.

At Neelikon, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a core component of our philosophy and business practices. At Neelikon, the philosophy of ‘Kyosei ‘- living and working together for the common good, comes foremost.
We had received request letter from Suhit Jeevan Trust to provide Van for their students who travel from neighboring villages to the school daily. While they came with the request, Mr. Mukundbhai Turakhia, Managing Director of Neelikon, took an immediate decision and accepted their request.

With great pleasure, we are sharing the good news of Neelikon being awarded “Business Enterprises of Tomorrow 2022 Award” by Dun & Bradsheet under the category Mid Corporate – Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Mid-Corporates are contributing approximately 30% of GDP, 50% of exports and 35% of total manufacturing output of the country. They spearhead innovations, foster the entrepreneurship drive, inculcate entrepreneurial instincts and stimulate private ownership that help national growth through investments and employment creation, especially in semi-urban & rural areas.

With great pleasure we are sharing the good news of Neelikon being awarded the Prestigious Award “TRISHUL” instituted by the export promotion Council – CHEMEXCIL under the category of Panel – I : Dyes & Dye Intermediates -Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) for the outstanding export performance for the year 2016-17.
CHEMEXCIL is set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Government of India in the year 1963 with the objective of promoting exports of the following items from India to various countries abroad. These items have been grouped into IV separate Panels:
Panel – I : Dyes and Dye Intermediates
Panel – II : Basic Inorganic & Organic Chemicals, including Agrochemicals
Panel – III : Cosmetics, Soaps, Toiletries & Essential Oils

Mr. Mukund Turakhia was presented the 'UAA-ICT Distinguished Alumnus Award’
Neelikon is pleased to announce that our founder and Managing Director Mr. Mukund Turakhia was presented the ‘UAA-ICT Distinguished Alumnus Award’ (Entrepreneur Category) for the year 2017-2018. The award was presented at the Foundation Day Celebrations of the UDCT Alumni Association (UAA), on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT)in Mumbai.
The award was in recognition of Mr. Mukund‘s more than 50 years contribution to the Indian dyestuff industry and specifically to his pioneering role in developing food, drug and cosmetic dyes and fluorescent dyes manufacturing in India with indigenous technology.
Mr. Mukund is an alumni (1962-1966) of ICT which was founded in 1933 as a University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) of the University of Mumbai.
ICT is considered to be one of the best post-graduate institutes in India. The international surveys conducted by Professor Jude Sommerfeld of Georgia Institute of Technology for the 5-year period during 2007-2011 described ICT as the best chemical engineering institute in India on the basis of no. of research papers published. Besides it was ranked 4th in the world after MIT, Delaware University and Georgia Tech.
The Institute has produced more than 500 first generation entrepreneurs and academicians. Government of India’s top civilian honors including 3 Padma Shri and 8 each of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan have been bestowed upon various alumni ICT. Only two Indian engineers, namely Raghunath Mashelkar and Man Mohan Sharma, have been bestowed with the fellowship of the Royal Society, both of whom are alumni of ICT.

Neelikon Food Dyes & Chemicals Ltd. awarded the category Best Manufacturer-Exporter at the ECGC – D&B Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2012
Mumbai, November 26, 2012: Dun & Bradstreet, the world’s leading provider of global business information, in association with Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India ad (ECGC), India’s leading provider of export credit insurance, announced the ‘ECGC — D&B Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2012′ to recognize the contribution of the Exporters to the Indian economy. The ECGD-D&B Indian Exporters Excellence Awards were introduced to recognize the growing contribution of exports to the Indian economy.
We are pleased to inform you that from more than 1500 entries received, Neelikon was awarded the category Best Manufacturer-Exporter (Small) at the ECGC — D&B Indian Exporters’ Excellence Awards 2012.
The Awards Event was closely tied to the publication, ‘India’s Leading Exporters 2012’ that features the award winners and other leading exporters of the country. The awards provided an opportunity for ECGC and D&B to acknowledge exporters who have outperformed their peers.

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) plays an important part of Neelikon’s philosophy and business. At Neelikon, the philosophy of ‘Kyosei ‘- living and working together for the common good, comes foremost. Neelikon cares not only for the quality of the products, but also the society and strives to give back as much as it can.
Last week Neelikon donated a bus to Suhit Jeevan Trust which runs a school for mentally retarded as well as mentally challenged children. They have 100+ students who travel from 43 neighboring villages to the school daily. This bus is for the student to help them commute.
The bus donation for the safe and easy commute of the students was requested by the principal and while they came with the request, it was instantaneous decision of the MD Mr Mukund Turakhia.
